Cabo de Gata Natural Park, Spain

This geopark is located on the coast of Costa Blanca and covers an area of 500 km². It became a global geopark in 2006. The park is located in a semi-arid region with poor soil but abundant plant species. It ranks among the most diverse and unique ecological areas in Europe. There are thousands of native plant species, hundreds of which are small and have short lifespans (days to months). The animal species include eye-catching marine birds, steppe birds and salt marsh birds. Participating in ecological diving in the Cavo de Gata Geopark is an unforgettable experience because the water along the coast is the cleanest and clearest in the Mediterranean. In addition, the geopark has a vast marine grassland of Posidonia oceanica, where sea urchins, starfish, sponges, molluscs and many species of fish have ideal feeding and breeding grounds.
