Sandstone Honeycomb Cave Group Landscape

This type of landscape forms in sandstone landforms. Groups of caves of varying sizes, forms and depths often form on parallel sandstone strata, and this landform is called a sandstone honeycomb cave group landscape. These caves form as a result of differential weathering, fluvial erosion and wind action. They always form in arrays and are interconnected. Small caves are sometimes enclosed inside larger caves, and all of these features constitute spectacular sandstone cave groups. They are common on the red cliffs of the Danxia landform, and they can also be found in the wind-eroded sandstone cliffs in China’s northwestern regions, such as the honeycomb cave group on the sandstone cliff along the rivers in Mawu Gorge in Guide County, Qinghai Province.
