Rocky Desert Landscape

There are two kinds of rocky deserts: (1) mountain deserts, which are mountainous desert areas with bare rocks, sparse vegetation, desolate scenery, and depressions without water that are covered by clastic rocks; and (2) stone deserts, which are landforms with bare exposed rocks left behind after the sand is blown away due to wind erosion and physical weathering. Deserts cover large areas of the world, and many are found in North America and northwestern China (Fig. 21).
