This is one of the Ten Spectacular Sceneries of West Lake. The Broken Bridge is located on the eastern side of the Baidi (White Embankment) in West Lake. It faces Hangzhou City and is backed by Baoshi (Gemstone) Mountain, and it is the dyke that divides the outer lake and the northern inner lake. The bridge is at a higher level, so it has a clear view and is the best place to watch the snow on West Lake in the winter. Whenever early snow falls on the top of Baoshi Mountain, it can be seen from West Lake from the south, and the snow or ice on the arch of the Broken Bridges melts under the sun, revealing some of the bridge railings, while both ends of the bridge are still covered with snow. Under such conditions, the entire bridge is barely discernible and looks broken. Hence, this scenery was given the name ‘remnant snow on the Broken Bridge’ (Fig. 7).
