Regional differentiation is the most fundamental earth science characteristic of tourism resources, and it refers to the basic factors that form different types of tourism resources, each with its own characteristics. Regional differentiation is affected by multiple factors, including latitudinal climatic factors (ranging from tropical, subtropical, and temperate to polar), altitudinal topographic and geomorphological factors (ranging from plains, low mountains, undulating hills, and high mountains to plateaus), the geographical distribution of oceans, land and lakes, the geological structures and varied lithological and petrological characteristics of different rock strata, and historical, cultural and national folklore.
