This heritage site is located in the northwestern Krasnoyarsk Krai region of the Russian Federation. It is under the jurisdiction of the Putorana State Nature Reserve. It is located in the heart of the Putorana plateau in the northern part of Central Siberia approximately 100 km from the North Pole. The plateau is protected to preserve the sub-Arctic to Arctic ecosystems, including the original coniferous forest, frozen forest, Arctic tundra and Arctic desert system, in the remote mountainous environments. The region also contains cold-water lakes and river systems that are inaccessible. Important reindeer migration routes cross the heritage area, illustrating interesting natural phenomena.
