This small dinosaur was widely distributed across China in the early Cretaceous. It had a beak like a parrot, which is how it gets its name. It was a small ornithopod, 1–2 m long, and it walked on two legs. Its head is flat and wide but raised with a curved snout that ends in a horny beak. The forelimbs are slightly shorter than the hindlimbs. Psittacosaurs were active, and the young were raised in groups by their mothers. Swarms of young Psittacosaurus fossils have been found and well preserved in Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province (Figs. 30 and 31).
