Geological heritage protection and management regulations were announced by the Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources on 4 May 1995. The contents include: Chapter I, General Provisions; Chapter II, Protection elements, including typical geological sections, important fossil sites, landforms such as karst, danxia, loess, yardang and other geological landscapes, special rocks of high ornamental value, waterfalls, lakes and spring landscapes of special value and significance, typical geohazard sites and other geosites of special geo-scientific value; Chapter III, Establishment of protection sites with different criteria and standards; Chapter IV, Management and protection of geological heritage, planning, requirements, organisations and responsibilities; Chapter V, Legal issues and responsibilities; and Chapter VI, Supplementary provisions.
