Planation is an exogenous process that levels undulating ground by means of various forces, including wind, pitting, solution and waves. The uplift and subsidence of the surface caused by tectonic movements and the planation of landforms demonstrate the principle of the unity of opposites. An increase in the height difference between surfaces is counteracted by planation, which reduces the height difference and forms a relatively level land surface.
