Permian-Triassic Boundary Section (GSSP ‘Golden Spike’) in Changxing, Zhejiang

This section is located in Meishan Town in Changxing County, Zhejiang Province. The Changxing Stage section overlies the Permian System and includes a thick layer of grey to dark grey limestone with a silicate zone and multiple layers of clay. The section is rich in conodont fossils and can be divided into four conodont zones, and the first appearance of the conodont Clarkia subcarinata marks the bottom boundary of the Changxing Stage. The section also contains Plaeofusulina fragments and fossils of Pseudotirolites and Tapashanitidaes. The Yinkengian Stage (equivalent to the Indian Stage on the International Stratigraphic Chart) at the bottom of the Triassic Series mainly consists of mudstone and limestone with five conodont zones, two ammonite zones and four bivalve zones.
