Palaeozoology is the study of the patterns of survival, evolution and geographical distribution of animals in a geologic period. According to the focus of research, palaeozoology can be divided into vertebrate palaeontology and invertebrate palaeontology. Fossils of ancient fauna are major components of geoparks, important geological relics and crucial geotourism resources.
