This biota is located in the early Pleistocene Nihewan Formation in Yangyuan County, Hebei Province. The fossils are mainly mammals, including Proboscidipparion sinense, Equus sanmeniensis, Elasmotherium inexpectatum, Elasmotherium peii, Dicerorhi nusmerckii, Megantereon nihowanensis, late-stage Machairodus, Pachycrocuta brevirostris, Megaloceros, ancient Chinese bison, Sus lydekkeri, Cantschihliensis, foxes, Elephas namadicus and Archidiscodon. Other than individual Neogene fossil pieces, almost all of the fossils are from the Quaternary and are extinct. The ecological types of animals indicate that the environment was a temperate forest and grassland biota (Fig. 7).
