National geoparks in China refer to nationally designated areas containing geological heritage with unique scientific, aesthetic, educational, and economic value. These areas usually possess outstanding geological, ecological and cultural landscapes and are properly managed under local governments or assigned organisations. They also have thorough environmental protection, geoconservation and sustainable development plans to support environmental protection and foster local sustainable development for the benefit of the local people.
