Modern Glaciers

In contrast to ancient glaciers, modern glaciers are glaciers that are still growing and developing. They are mainly located near the two poles and in alpine regions, and they cover approximately 10% of the Earth’s land, which is an area of 16 million km 2. Modern glaciers store up approximately 85% of the global freshwater resources (Fig. 21).
