This geopark is located in Benxi City, Liaoning Province, in the low mountains and hills along the western extension of the Changbai Mountains. It became a national geopark in 2005. The main geological landscapes include karst caves, solution depressions, sinkholes, stratigraphic sections, historic sites of early humans, tectonic relics, volcanic relics, and geohazard relics. The unique landscapes include the Benxi Water Tunnel and karst sinkhole with an underground river that is approximately 3,000 m long, the Maoyan Cave (a cave from which steam rises), and early human fossils and cultural relics at the historic site of Miaohou Mountain.
