Benthos are living creatures that live at the bottom of the water. They include most invertebrates and algae and a few higher plants, freshwater molluscs, annelids and seaweeds. Benthos can be divided into epibenthos and endobenthos, and they can also be categorised into sessile benthos and vigil benthos.
