This park is located on the border between Madre de Dios Province and Cusco Province in southeastern Peru. Manú National Park protects a core area of 15,328 km2. It contains successive tiers of vegetation rising from 150 to 4,200 m above sea level. The lower tiers of vegetation are home to an unrivalled variety of animal and plant species. Approximately 850 species of birds have been identified, and rare species such as the giant otter and the giant armadillo are also present. Jaguars are often observed in the park.
