The Lord Howe Island Group is located in the Pacific Ocean 700 km northeast of Sydney, New South Wales. The site consists of Lord Howe Island and the nearby ocean area, which is dotted with coral reefs. It has an area of 1,463 km2. Boasting a unique oceanic topography generated by volcanic activity at depths of more than 2,000 m, these islands are home to numerous endemic species, especially birds.
