This is one of the landscapes of loess accumulation. It is a high tableland with extensive coverage (dozens to hundreds of square kilometres) and a flat top that is dissected by gullies. It is locally called ‘yuan’, which means high tableland. Famous examples are Dongzhi Yuan and Baicao (White Grass) Yuan in eastern Gansu Province and Luochuan Yuan in northern Shaanxi Province (Fig. 39).
