This geopark is located in Lingwu City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It became a national geopark in 2009, and the main geological attractions are fossil remains, ancient human activity sites and interesting stratigraphy, geomorphology and hydrology. Fossils of eight dinosaurs, including skulls, teeth and scapulas, were excavated on the southern side of the hill in Ciyaobao, Ningdong Town in Lingwu City. These dinosaurs were large herbivorous sauropods and were found in the Jurassic Yan’an Formation, which is approximately 160 million years old. An ancient human site is located in Shuidonggou, which contains evidence of human activity during the Late Palaeolithic, approximately 250,000 years ago.
