This is a landform that forms in flat and wide karst areas near the water surface. It is a bedrock plain that forms by river and groundwater erosion combined with the abrasion of sand and gravel carried by water. Karst plains often form near the contact between soluble and non-soluble rocks; therefore, they are called a karst margin plain. In humid tropical and subtropical areas, dissolution is strong because of frequent river flooding, so karst plains can form easily. The area of the plain can reach hundreds of square kilometres. Examples are the plains in Liuzhou, Laibin, Litang and Guiyang in central Guangxi Province.
