Barrier Lake Landscape

Synonym: Dammed lake landscape
This is a type of lake landscape consisting of lakes formed by blocking of a valley or a river channel by lava flows, glacial moraines or landslides and rock slides triggered by earthquakes. The Kanas glacial barrier lake in Xinjiang Province is a typical example. Barrier lakes can become severe flood hazards when the dams are broken (Fig. 9).
