Baron Ferdinand Von Richthofen

Baron Ferdinand von Richthofen (1833–1905) was a German physical geographer and geologist. He served as a professor at several universities, including Bonn, Leipzig and Berlin, as well as the president of the University of Berlin and president of the German Geographical Society. His works include ‘China – The Results of My Travels and the Studies Based Thereon, 5 Volumes and Atlas’, ‘The Tasks and Methods of Modern Geography’, ‘Leading Methods for Investigation and Research’ and ‘The Impetus and Directions of Geography in the 19th Century’. From 1868 to 1872, he travelled extensively in China to study geology, minerals, and loess, and he made significant contributions to the development of modern Chinese geology by bringing and exchanging new concepts and ideas.
