This type of karst valley has steep walls on both sides and a very narrow bottom (sometimes only a few metres to dozens of metres), and the depth far exceeds the width, which forms a unique landform. This type of valley is widely distributed in limestone regions subject to deep erosion by water associated with rapid crustal uplift. Karst gorges are often suitable for rafting and hence are an excellent tourism resource for participatory activities. The Maling scenic area in Xingyi National Geopark, Guizhou Province, is a typical example (Figs. 10 and 11).
