Jurassic Period

The Jurassic Period is the second period of the Mesozoic Era. It lasted from 199.6 to 145.5 million years ago, a duration of 54.1 million years. The Jurassic System includes the rocks that formed during the Jurassic Period. The name originates from the Jura Mountains on the border between France and Switzerland. Starting in the Jurassic Period, the main ancient Chinese mainland was in a terrestrial environment, and the pre-Triassic palaeogeographical pattern in the eastern regions, consisting of marine sedimentation in the south and terrestrial sedimentation in the north bounded by the Qinling-Daibeishan line, ended. Southern China, northern China and northeast China were linked by numerous sedimentary basins of different sizes.
