A banded structure refers to an alternating striped arrangement of light-coloured (mainly quartz, feldspar, and calcite) and dark-coloured (mainly biotite, hornblende and magnetite) minerals. It is a typical structure of metamorphic rocks and migmatite, and it mainly forms by metamorphism and differentiation (Fig. 4).
