Ice Cap

This is also known as an ice hat or ice dome. It is a cover-type glacier that is smaller than an ice sheet with a similar form but a more pronounced dome shape. Due to differential pressure, the ice inside the ice body flows in a radial pattern. It is a transitional type of glacier between an ice sheet and a mountain glacier. Ice caps are mainly found in plateaus and on islands at high latitudes; therefore, they can be further divided into plateau ice caps and island ice caps (Fig. 1).
