This is a spring landscape consisting of Hupao Spring, which ranks first among the springs in West Lake. It is located next to the Huizen (Wisdom of Zen) Monastery below Baihe (White Crane) Peak on Daci (Great Mercy) Mountain, southwest of Hangzhou. It has been ranked as the 4th most historic spring in China. The name came from the legend that the spring water flowed after two tigers ran across the ground. The spring water actually comes from an aquifer that was cut by the Daci Mountain Fault, and the water seeps from the sandstone along the fault to form a subsidence spring. The spring has a flow volume of 43.2–86.4 m3 per day. The water is crystal clear and has a sweet taste. It is excellent for making tea; hence, it has become an important tourist attraction in West Lake.
