Located east of Yichuan County in Shaanxi Province and west of Ji County in Shanxi Province, the Hukou Waterfall is a natural waterfall where the middle course of the Yellow River flows through the Shaanxi-Shanxi Canyon. The fall width is 50 m, the depth is approximately 50 m, and the largest fall surface has an area of 30,000 m2. This waterfall is located at the spot where the river, which is more than 300 m wide, is suddenly bound by the river banks and drops 50 m in a gap with a wide top and a narrow bottom. The flow roars and looks like water pouring from a pot, which is why it was given the name ‘Hukou (Tea Pot Mouth) Waterfall’. The ancient book Yu Gong states: ‘the river flows out in a vortex like water being poured from a pot’, and this description vividly captures the scenery (Fig. 29).
