A hogback is a unique type of cuesta that comprises a monocline with a steep dip. It is a ridge with two steep slopes resembling the back of a hog. In general, the dips are greater than 45°. The backslope, which hinges on the structural plane, is symmetrical to the front slope formed by erosion. Hogbacks are generally composed of hard rocks with a gentle dip. They are often located on the margins of tectonic basins with tilted rock strata (Fig. 12).
