This famous site is located in the province of Cuzco in southeastern Peru, and it has a core protection area of 325 km2. Machu Picchu, located at an elevation of 2,430 m in the tropical forest, is probably the most amazing city complex left by the Inca Empire. Huge walls, terraces and ramps were built on rocks surrounded by cliffs. The area is near the eastern slopes of the Andes and is in the upstream part of the Amazon Basin, and it has very rich biodiversity.
