The Hereynian movement is also known as the Variscan movement, which occurred in the late Palaeozoic in Europe. This movement had global significance. In China, the main events were mainly associated with the extensive crustal movement between the Carboniferous and Permian Periods. The Tianshan-Xingan orogenic belt is a typical Hereynian (Variscan) orogenic belt, and it is more than 300 million years old.
