Ha Long Bay, Vietnam
This area is located in Quảng Ninh Province, Vietnam, and is a small bay in the northwestern Gulf of Tonkin. Since its extension in 2000, its core protection area now covers 1,500 km2. The area has approximately 1,600 islands of different sizes, which form a spectacular karst stone pillar ocean landscape. Because they all have steep slopes, most of the islands in the protected area have not been influenced by human factors, such as settlements.
