Introduction
An increasing number of consumers are interested in food consumption and food provenance but feel relatively powerless to influence food production systems. Power in food systems is concentrated with a small number of large manufacturing and retail corporations. Agriculture and food policy and regulatory frameworks tend to be associated with neoliberal political-economic agendas.
Food democracy is a social movement which offers the public opportunities to actively participate in how their food systems develop, allowing alternative perspectives on what food is and how food should be produced and consumed.
