Internationalization of the Curriculum in the Disciplines, Critical Perspectives

“Internationalization of the curriculum” (IoC) refers to both the process by which educational institutions intentionally prepare their students for life and work in a globalized world, and the product or outcome of this process. While IoC as a construct and process is often debated (Whitsed and Green 2013), the following definition is valuable for two reasons: it explicitly refers to the intercultural dimensions of the curriculum and it includes a focus on learning outcomes for students.

Internationalisation of the curriculum is the incorporation of international, intercultural and global dimensions into the content of the curriculum as well as the learning outcomes, assessment tasks, teaching methods and support services of a program of study. (Leask 2015, p. 9)
