Abstract

Pars planitis (PP) is an entity that is characterized by inflammation of the vitreous, ciliary body, and peripheral retina (intermediate uveitis) and is not associated with any known cause of inflammation (idiopathic). Frequently, this entity is associated with optic nerve inflammation and presence of macular edema which appears as leakage on fluorescein angiography and leads to impairment in visual acuity. This chapter will discuss the current understanding of the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical diagnosis, and management strategies of PP.
