Paul M. Naghdi (*March 29, 1924, Tehran, Iran; †July 9, 1994, Berkeley, California, USA) was an engineering scientist and professor. He made fundamental contributions to continuum mechanics, especially in the areas of shell theory, plasticity, fluid sheets, Cosserat continua, and continuum thermodynamics. (An extensive biography, with a list of Naghdi’s publications, may be found in Casey and Crochet (1995), pp. S3–S47.)
