Reproductive Cell-Cycle Theory of Aging
The reproductive-cell cycle theory of aging proposes that the reproduction hormones control aging in an antagonistic pleiotropic manner by governing growth and development in early life stages and driving to senescence in late stages. The major changes occurring throughout a lifetime comprise cell growth, differentiation, and apoptosis. Accordingly, the regulation of these processes, by HPG hormone signaling, allows the control of the aging process (Bowen and Atwood 2004; Atwood and Bowen 2011).
