Abstract
The incorporation of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in higher educational institutes is a process in cohesion with a variety of other initiatives in the campus community. University campuses can no more be regarded as rigid, academic institutions rooted in scientific knowledge but need to take the window of opportunity available via ESD to collaborate in communities with knowledge and communication about real-life problematic scenario. Implementation of ESD at university campuses takes place on various time – and activity scales. No foolproof method or single approach exists for successful merging of university curriculum and activities of ESD in communities. Experiences in ESD reveal possible successes to implement the process of ESD in a transformative way, which not only benefits the campus but diverse participants involved. The merging of different types of curriculum in diverse teaching-learning approaches seems to profit ESD in general and in communities.
