Definition

M-AME is a malignant neoplasm of the breast that is arising within or intimately associated with a clinically and/or histologically definable benign adenomyoepithelioma or is a malignant neoplasm showing concurrent epithelial and myoepithelial differentiation. The entity of histologically benign or borderline/atypical AME associated with metastases (Nadelman et al. 2006) is not included in this definition.

Classification of M-AME

  • Epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma (EMEC)

  • AME containing in situ carcinoma

  • AME associated with invasive carcinoma (carcinoma ex-AME):

    • Breast carcinoma of no special type (NST)

    • Invasive lobular carcinoma

    • Carcinoma of special types

      • Squamous or adenosquamous

      • Spindle cell

      • Carcinosarcoma

      • Metaplastic matrix producing

      • Myoepithelial carcinoma
