Antonio Damasio, Ph.D.

Landmark Clinical, Scientific, and Professional Contributions

Antonio Damasio is a prominent neurologist, neuroscientist, and author. His research investigating the relationships between brain damage and functioning has had a major influence on both Psychology and Philosophy, especially in the domains of emotion and decision-making. He has proposed the Somatic Marker Hypothesis that posits emotional states can cause changes in the periphery and these visceral changes can, in turn, influence decision-making.
