The NIH-sponsored, Executive Abilities: Methods and Instruments for Neurobehavioral Evaluation and Research (NIH-EXAMINER) is a neuropsychological test battery developed to reliably and validly assess specific domains of executive functioning for clinical investigations and clinical trials across a wide range of ages and disorders. It is available in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Hebrew, each with a regular and young (preliterate) children’s version. There are three alternate forms for each version. All NIH-EXAMINER materials are in the public domain and freely available to qualified users upon request at http://memory.ucsf.edu/resources/examiner. The battery includes computerized, paper/pencil, and verbal tasks and measures targeting eight constructs that fall under the rubric of executive function: working memory, inhibition, set shifting, fluency, planning, insight, social cognition, and behavior (Table 1).
