Description

The Childhood Autism Rating Scale, Second Edition (CARS2) is 15-item observation-based rating system designed to assist in diagnostic assessment and intervention for autism spectrum disorders (Schopler et al. 2010). Two observational rating forms are available including the CARS2-ST (Standard Version) and the CARS2-HF (High Functioning). The content of the CARS2-ST remains unchanged from that of the original CARS, published in 1988, and continues to be used with children aged 6 and older. The CARS2-HF was developed as an alternative measure to differentiate higher-functioning and verbally fluent (estimated overall IQ scores ≥80) individuals with autism spectrum disorders from comorbid concerns (Schopler et al. 2010).
