Post-fire survey, case study, or investigation is the process of collecting and analyzing data relating to wildland urban interface (WUI) fire events. While the principle aims of these surveys can be diverse, the types of data that are collected, and the subsequent analyses, typically include event sequences, fire behavior, weather, defensive actions, firefighting response, building design, surrounding vegetation, building maintenance, and human behavior. These surveys or investigations can provide insight into the factors influencing potential house loss and community response and the effects of fire on infrastructure and community evacuation.
