Definition
Suppression expenditures consist of direct expenditures of money on suppression or management activities during wildland fire and wildland-urban interface (WUI) fire incidents. Suppression is defined as the activities aimed at restricting the spread and impacts of a wildland fire/WUI fire after it has been detected. Wildland fire/WUI fire management is defined as the activities aimed at limiting damages associated with fire spread and maximizing the ecological benefits when fire can act as a natural ecological process. These management practices include suppression activities but may also include other activities that do not seek to extinguish or limit the spread and burned area of the fire.
