Julian Leff, M.D.
Introduction
Dr. Leff has been an integral component to the expansion of research in the fields of social psychiatry and psychology. He has focused on expressed emotion, the attitudes and behaviors an individual conveys towards a family member diagnosed with schizophrenia. More specficially his research focuses on expressed emotion among families with a member diagnosed with schizophrenia, differences in culture and how it pertains to expressed emotion, relapse prevention, and depression. Dr. Leff, together with Christine Vaughn, created a shorter version of the Camberwell Family Interview in an effort to assess for expressed emotion in a shorter amount of time. Most recently his research includes the use and development of Avatar Therapy to decrease auditory hallucinations among those with schizophrenia.
