Ian Falloon (1940–2006)
Introduction
Ian Falloon is one of the pioneers for early prevention and interventions for schizophrenia. Falloon developed an integrated continuing care program. Behavioral family therapy was developed by Ian Falloon in the 1980s, which is an evidence-based, psychoeducational approach. Falloon’s model, a stress-management approach, trains patients and their caretakers to use tools to manage instances of excessive stress, rather than avoid stressful situations.
Career
Ian Falloon earned a Bachelor of Medicine, ChB, from Otago University in 1968. Ian interned at Auckland Hospital from 1969 to 1970. He then completed his residency in Psychiatry at Maudsley Hospital in London, from 1970 to 1973. Ian Falloon earned his Diploma in Psychological Medicine from London University in 1974.
