Introduction

Training in family therapy is a rigorous and well-regulated process. In order to become a family therapist, supervisor, researcher, teacher, administrator, etc., a person must first be trained. Relative to context, training bleeds into nearly every aspect of the profession. For students, graduate training* programs are the gateway to the profession of couple and family therapy. For supervisors, approved supervisor training is the gateway to providing systemic supervision. Training is the way in which experienced members of a given role disseminate and pass information on to new members so that they may practice within the respective role at hand.
