Introduction
Known as the mother of family therapy, Virginia Satir made countless contributions to the field, culminating in the Satir Model of Transformational Systemic Therapy (STST; Satir et al. 1991). STST embodies her decades of experience and research in a therapeutic approach that is characterized by her warmth and celebration of the positive, radiating spirit that she believed to be intrinsic to every human being. STST is a model designed with family systems in mind (although it can also be applied to working with couples and individuals). This model facilitates growth by helping clients gain awareness regarding how their past survival stances are no longer serving their best interests.
