Introduction
The purpose of this entry is to provide an overview of public procurement history, practices, and trends. History and practices are outlined in the context of the United States while procurement trends are presented incorporating the global view. The first section explains the nexus between public procurement and public management. The second section outlines how public procurement manifests in public administration research, and the final section details the trends in procurement research from 1972 to 2017.
